What Customers Say About Crosley CR248 Songwriter CD Recorder - Paprika:

Some type of dynamic indication of how much disk space is available would be extremely helpful. The sound quality is marginal, due to the cheesy speakers. But generally I am pleased with it since it's the only one I have.

DON"T BUY IT. I am not planning on using it much. The first one I bought I returned because I couldn't even hear the songs on the CD. It has one thing for it. It is easy to use, however, the sound is horrible.

The cabinet is pretty. the second one is a tiny bit better, but it still very disappointing. It is noisy and has a loud humming sound to the finished CD. I don't recommend this product to anyone. Also, the background is horrible.

I haven't even tried the cassette player yet.

Yes, Crosley, I'm screaming at you. HUGE RIP OFF. Curse on whoever designed this cheaply made junk and slapped that outrageous price tag on it. CD tray will NOT open. Don't let me catch you on the streets. I hate using all caps, but I'm screaming right now.

You have a lot of nerve, Crosley. Turntable spontaneously creates speeds of its own. It drives me crazy. I hope your company fails miserably.

I WISH IT LASTED LONGER. RUSS AFTER AN HOUR THE MACHINE STOPPED RECORDING. I STARTED TO MAKE CD'S FROM CASETTES. THEY SHOULD BE LIT UP. I DON'T LIKE THE CONTROLS. I HAD TO USE A FLASH LIGHT TO SEE THE DIFFERENT CONTROL BUTTON. I AM IN THE PROCESS OF RETURNING THIS UNIT.

The wood had many dents and dings in it and the main plastic knob looked like a dog chewed on it. I figured maybe it was just a typo in the manual and settled that it didn't matter just as long as the unit worked properly. I figured those who made complaints might just not have read directions properly and were easily dissatified. The dark wood color did not match that on the box (I still can't decide what color it is since it is NOT oak and that is what I wanted and is pictured on the box and in the photo of the product description). I most certainly would not have purchased anything refurbished, especially for the high price of the machine. From the very first use, I saw that what was happening on the screen was not what was said would happen in the user manual.

Some other pet peeves: 1) "Finalize" CD function (crucial to the recording process) is not foolproof. Now that I spent a lot of money on this item, I clearly see why those who were dissatisfied were so upset. This happened with many different cassettes thereafter. Playing the same tapes on a different machine proved that nothing was wrong with them so it definitely was the machine. I also wanted something simple without having to purchase various equipment and hook it up to a computer. If you are going to copy tapes and don't want your original master tapes chewed up, I can't more highly recommend that you invest in a double tape recorder and copy your master tapes first before putting them in this machine. The instructions were simple and easy to follow. They should have noted it was refurbished if that's what they were selling.

Crosley had a good reputation so I was willing to take my chances. I really wondered if my machine was a refurbished model. Upon opening the box, I was surprised with the quality of the construction. Some CDs I have made with this unit do not play on other CD players. After about 20 tapes, the garbled sound seemed to disappear, but then it started to chew up my tapes. I read the reviews here on this and they were mixed: either it worked or it didn't. I have only tried cassettes so far and I now regret buying this thing. I have a funny feeling that it probably was.

It cuts a few seconds off the beginnin Invest in extra blank CDs: you will likely need them when you will have to re-record.2) "Track Split" function is a joke. This item seemed ideal for my needs since I just wanted to be able to record my cassettes (and eventually some vinyl) onto CDs. It wasn't the nice quality expected of Crosley's reputation. I noticed after the second cassette I copied, the sound was garbled, as if the tape was warped.
